Our Students Learn About the Process
and Benefits of Fresh Grown Food

“There are so many benefits for our students who work in the garden. Whether they're in second grade or eighth grade. Everybody's excited everybody wants to turn wants to do something. They feel like they're doing something special for their school community.”

– Kelly Miller, Second Grad Specialist

In Chicago Public Schools, CPS Fresh Week was from May 9th until May 13th. This week, formerly known as CPS Fresh Attitudes Week, is designed to highlight fresh produce on the menu and encourage students to incorporate more fruits & vegetables into their diet.

The week engages students with recipe samplings, meal surveys and introduces new recipes to the school food menu.  Students district-wide enjoyed Local Fresh Primavera mix and entrée Salads in dishes such as; Citrus Slaw, Kale Chicken Caesar Salad, Cucumber Kimchi, Pasta Primavera, and Veggie Lover’s Pizza.  The menu during the week will feature lots of fresh vegetables like Romaine Lettuce, Kale, Tomato, Green and Purple Cabbage, Carrots, Cucumber, Broccoli, and Baby Spinach.

Schools in the district that were scheduled for engagement events included:
World Language E.S., Gwendolyn Brooks H.S., Lee E.S., South Shore Fine Arts Academy, North Grand H.S., CVS H.S. and Kellerman E.S.
