Azteca Foods Brings Tortilla Education to World Language High

On September 26th, World Language High School hosted an exciting Farm to School event, featuring representatives from CPS, Aramark, and Azteca Foods, a key supplier of tortillas for CPS schools. The event aimed to educate students on the production of tortillas to distribution, providing valuable insights into the food industry.

Mattie Horwitch, a Registered Dietitian and broker for Azteca Foods, led an engaging presentation that introduced students to the Azteca brand. She walked them through the tortilla production process, explaining how raw ingredients are transformed into the tortillas they enjoy at school. Mattie also discussed how food brands like Azteca are marketed and distributed, offering students a behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to bring their favorite foods from factories to their cafeteria plates.

Following the presentation, students were treated to delicious barbacoa tacos prepared by Aramark chefs, featuring Azteca tortillas. This hands-on tasting experience allowed students to savor the quality of the food while learning about the important partnership between local vendors and school meal programs. As the event wrapped up, Aramark and Azteca representatives distributed Azteca tortilla giveaways, leaving students with fun and delicious takeaways from the day.
